With tweaks to the rules that cleared up most, if not all, of the glaring problems with the first Requiem, it was clear that the crew of the Path were capable of producing not only games superior to their earlier versions, but that were top-notch in their own right. Aside from the fact that the rules made it quite hard to actually kill a vampire, now characters would need to balance their mutual distastes against the possibility that the lick they'd gladly kill tonight over some ultimately minor offense might be the only thing that keeps them safe from the Owls tomorrow. Onyx Path, then, decided to give us a society of dead things trying to look human, with the city-states acting both as support group for those who have lost everything that they knew and loved and as mutual defense pact against things out there that were even worse than the Kindred, and I loved every word of it. I had grown sick to death, so to speak, of Kindred society that was little more than a dominance game between 'monsters', with little if anything to keep it from falling into irreversible balkanization or unending war due to severely clashing ideologies. It took a game concept that I loved that had sadly been paired with a barely functioning setting, tweaked it, and turned it into something really great. Last time on the Revised New World of Darkness, I took a look at Blood and Smoke: The Strix Chronicle, which has since officially become the second edition of Vampire: The Requiem.
